Backpacking in Costa Rica

Thinking of backpacking in Costa Rica?  If you pick Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia as your destination, you'll find plenty of places to visit and activities to enjoy in and around the Pacific Coast.

Be sure to carry a lightweight day pack and whatever you do, do not leave your backpack unattended at anytime, anywhere, just to be safe ;)  While most Ticos (locals) are genuinely friendly, others view tourists as easy targets and the black market is alive and well in Costa Rica :(

If you're heading out to catch some waves near Nosara, one of Costa Rica's best surfing towns, be sure to bring along a decent micro fibre towel and a waterproof pouch to keep your valuables (including your passport, hotel key, cash etc.) with you at all times. (Both are available online from Outwood Sports.)  And don't forget to keep a copy of your passport - including a copy showing the entry stamp - in a safe place.

There are many youth hostels located near Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo and more.  Our condo in Playas del Coco is a great starting point or home base for exploring the Guanacaste region where you'll find scuba diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, wildlife viewing, parasailing, mountain biking, fishing and monkeys!!

Cheers!
