Costa Rica Pre-Colombian Art

One of the best collections of Costa Rica Pre-Colombian art is on display at the Museo de Oro in the capital city of San Jose.

Known in English as the Pre-Colombian Gold Museum, there are more than 1,600 items on exhibit dating from 500 A.D. to 1,500 A.D.  This amazing selection of objects showcases the cultural development of gold in Costa Rica along with the meanings and uses of these objects.

The Museo de Oro is open daily from 9:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except for National holidays that include Jan 1; Good Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday; Apr 11; May 1; July 25; Aug 2; Aug 15; Sep 15; 2nd Wed in Dec, along with Dec 24, 25, and 31.

Admission prices currently are 5,500 Costa Rican Colones - equivalent to approximately USD$11.00 (reduced price as some exhibits are currently closed for upgrading).

For more information, visit Museos del Banco Central de Costa Rica.

Cheers from Costa Rica,
